We're thrilled to welcome new and emerging Rubyists to SF Ruby Conf 2025 through our Scholarship Program โ€” created to make the conference more accessible for students, recent graduates, and folks early in their software careers.

๐Ÿง  What the Scholarship Includes

  • โ€ข A free ticket to the full SF Ruby Conf experience (November 19โ€“21, 2025) at Fort Mason, San Francisco โ€” including main conference days (Nov 19โ€“20) and Community Day (Nov 21).
  • โ€ข Invitation to a private Slack channel to meet other scholars, share lodging ideas, and connect before & after the conference.

Please note: scholarships do not include travel or accommodations โ€” recipients are responsible for their own arrangements.

  • โ€ข Active students or recent graduates (high school, college, bootcamp, or self-taught career changers).
  • โ€ข You should have a strong interest in Ruby or Rails โ€” whether you're just starting to learn or already writing code.
  • โ€ข Open to applicants worldwide, as long as you can attend in person in San Francisco.
  • โ€ข We especially encourage applications from underrepresented groups in tech and those who would benefit most from attending, although everyone is welcome to apply.

Who can apply?

Anyone who is a current student or recent graduate interested in Ruby or Rails โ€” including high schoolers, university students, bootcamp attendees, or self-taught developers. All ages and experience levels are welcome.

Do I need to live in the U.S.?

No! The program is open internationally. You're welcome to apply from anywhere, as long as you can attend in person in San Francisco.

What does the scholarship cover?

The scholarship provides a free ticket to the full SF Ruby Conf experience (November 19โ€“21). This includes the main conference days with talks and workshops (Nov 19โ€“20) plus Community Day (Nov 21). Travel, lodging, and meals are not included.

How many scholars will be selected?

We expect to select around 30 scholars this year.

When will I hear back?

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. You'll hear back shortly after October 22nd at the latest.

What happens after I apply?

Accepted and waitlisted scholars will receive an email with next steps, which includes a link to collect your free ticket and an invitation to our private Slack channel.

Can I attend only one day?

To be eligible for the scholarship, you'll need to attend both main conference days (Nov 19 & 20) which feature talks and workshops. Community Day (Nov 21) is included in your ticket but optional โ€” though highly encouraged for networking!

Is the application competitive?

We look for people who will benefit most from attending โ€” that means enthusiasm, curiosity, and a love for learning Ruby matter more than experience.

How can I connect with other scholars?

Accepted scholars will be invited to a private Slack channel to introduce themselves, share lodging plans, and connect before the event.
